Odds and Ends

So the major odds and ends have been taken care of. We have a DJ, photographer, and Caterer. We will be doing both the wedding and reception at our church.
I need to chat with my sister about invitations so we can get those started. Our goal is to have the invitations ready over Christmas break, but wait to mail them out until late Jan. early Feb. I hope this saves our sanity as the day moves closer.
It's exciting and slightly daunting. :)

Bridesmaid Dresses

I went with my good friend Mandy to find bridesmaid dresses. We found a good dress that looks good on a lot of people and matches the color scheme. It will be in dark silver.
I also found an adorable dress that I hope works for my little flower girls. They will be so adorable in those dresses!
Hopefully this will be the last of the decisions that need to be made until after midterms. YAY!

The Dress is Ordered!

On Saturday I went and got fitted for my dress. They will be ordering it today for me. I also picked out my veil and am getting my shoes died the dark red of part of the dress. I have several photos of the dress that I will gladly share, but Josiah isn't allowed to see them. If you'd like me to send them to you e-mail me at h.baker@utah.edu. I would love to post the dress here, but that will have to be after the fact.
I'm getting SOOOOOO excited!

I am engaged to the most incredible woman. Beautiful and intelligent I am humbled to have such an amazing woman in my life. I thank God everyday for her in my life. Second only to Christ she has brought life and joy into my life that otherwise I would have never known. Thank you B I love you.

After an hour and a half Heather is still a knockout after traipsing about the woods surrounding Silver Lake. It was an afternoon neither of us will ever forget. Thanks goes to Benjamin for his time and effort in doing an incredible job. Also to Andrew for his time and effort as caddy and comic relief.

Wedding Shoes

Money has officially exchanged hands regarding our wedding! Last weekend I went and purchased my shoes for the wedding.
Josiah's mom and I hit up a couple of shoe stores in the area. The first store was a bridal store so they had a decent selection of shoes for weddings, but only one that fit my criteria:
-comfortable enough
-no more than a 2 inch heel
-a wider based heel (meaning no spike heels)
-I don't walk goofy when wearing them
I didn't want to commit just yet so we headed off to another shoe store (regular shoe store). I had shopped around on the store's website and found a pair I wanted to try on. The reviews for the shoe were pretty good. Two people had worn them for their weddings and said they were just as comfortable as could be. I must say, they were CRAZY. They were highly uncomfortable. I felt like I was walking on a board.
Needless to say, I selected the first shoes I found and purchased inserts for them and will take them back to get dyed after I get measured for my dress tomorrow.
Oh, the part that most girls care about, the description:
The shoes have about a 1 1/2 inch heel that is more like a box heel (it skinnies down then flares out). The shoe has a small ribbon across the toe that goes over s a plasticy material that is way more comfortable than typical plasticy shoe stuff. They will be dyed off white to match my dress.

Photographer

It looks like we might have secured a photographer. It's the same guy who did both of my sister's weddings. You can see pictures of Jenni & Jared's wedding on his website www.dustinizatt.com. We are supposed to meet with him sometime this week to chat about our wedding. Hopefully we'll get everything secured by Thursday.

The Wedding Dress

So until this past week, I've done very little actual planning, but a lot of thinking about the wedding. Josiah and I have had long conversations about what we each want in our wedding and how we would like some things to proceed.
Thursday I was able to go wedding dress shopping with Cindy and Jenni (Step-mom and sister). It was fantastic. We hit up two different stores and I tried on somewhere around 13 dresses.
At the first store I found a dress that I thought was quite beautiful and could possibly be THE dress for the occasion. But, for the sake of seeing more dresses, we headed over to another store near by and tried on some more.
At one point, Jenni came over with a dress that was dark red, silver, "blingy", and off white. I wasn't thrilled about trying it on, but I did anyway. I walked out and all three of us were in agreement that this was the dress.
Sadly, I don't think I can post a picture on here of the dress because Josiah might catch a peek.
The dress has a dark red torso and the top is very much a 'V' shape. There are small straps that sit on the top of my shoulder, but on the outside edge. The dress proceeds into dark red with silver embroidery and bling. At the waist line (which isn't a straight line) it transitions into off white. At the bottom edge it returns to the dark red with silver embroidery. The train is about 6 feet long and there are buttons that go down the back. Every 4th button is a bling! It is just beautiful.
I tried on a few vails and I found a good lenght, but not the vail itself. That will be fairly easy though.
Now I must find my shoes this week (I'm thinking silver shoes) so that I can go back and get measured so they can make the dress. YAY!

The Proposal (Aug 6, 2009)

Here's the story...

Normally Josiah works until 7pm on Thursdays so I set up a time to get together with a friend from work from 5pm to 7pm. On Tuesday Josiah told me that he had the whole day off work Thursday which is cool, but I had already made plans and I'm not the type to cancel. He really wanted to bring me Red Robin (one of my favorite restaurants) so I told him he could bring it by before 5pm and we could eat and then my friend would come over and hang out. So he brought over the food (delicious) and 2 redish/orangish lilies. (He has brought me quite a few flowers through the last few months, and I LOVE it!). We ate and then he took off for a little while.

My friend and I played with her baby and chatted until 7pm and then she left. I had told Josiah to come back about 7:15pm so we could walk over to a show in Murray park to see a community theatre show (a few blocks from my condo). He called about 10 after 7pm and said that he forgot his wallet and he was half-way there. I told him to go get his wallet so he arrived a little late (7:30).

The show started at 8pm and the seats are first come first serve. So we decided to drive over. As he was getting into the car he whacked his head on the door frame INCREDIBLY hard. (his head still hurt yesterday and might have caused a mild concussion). He recovered enough to get us safely to the show. We saw Nunsense which is just hysterical and we had a good time.

After, we headed back to my house where we hung out briefly. It was getting to be about 10:30 on a Thursday and I like to go to bed then. So I was sitting quite comfortably on the chair and Josiah asked if I wanted to dance in the front room (which we've done several times) and I said that I was tired and didn't feel like it. He started to beg, but when I'm tired I get even more stubborn. So I refused. He said "Well, this didn't go down like I had planned" and he got the ring from down in the couch cushions (which I still don't know when he put it there) and got down on one knee and asked me. I (as observant as I typically am) was not expecting it so I took one extra moment to realize what he said before I said yes. Needless to say I got to bed about midnight instead of at 10:30.

We have decided to go with March 20th. It's going to be an adventure and it already is crazy.
